Shenmue III is the greatly anticipated third entry in the Shenmue saga. It's a story-driven action role-playing game that promises to be quite a rightful successor of its two predecessors in a series that started back in 1999. The game picks up the story right where Shenmue II ended. Follow the adventures of Ryo Hazuki, a teenage martial artist set on a quest to find his father's murderer. The story takes place in China in 1980, in the village of Bailu, a stark contrast to the Japanese suburbs and Hong Kong streets of the previous games.
Along with Ryo is Shenhua, a mysterious woman who Ryo saw in visions in previous games and briefly met in Shenmue II. They share a deep bond that will be explored in Shenmue III. Ryo is searching for the Phoenix mirror, an artifact that his father's murderer wants. In Shenmue III, Ryo will finally arrive at Bei Lu village in the mountains of China to find the man who crafted the Phoenix and Dragon mirrors. The Affinity system in the game will make him work hard to earn the trust of the villagers before they reveal the information he needs and he gets a step closer to the man he is looking for.
The game features a rich open world, a realistic combat system, and an immersive story full of cinematic sequences. If everything goes according to the original plans of Yu Suzuki, we will see another installment of the series in the future, because the saga is supposed to have 4 episodes.
Yu Suzuki is the director of the series, and Shenmue has become famous for being one of the most ambitious game projects in history, with the original Shenmue being the most expensive video game developed at the time. He definitely has met expectations with the first two titles, because the project not only has Sony and Deep Silver providing funding, but it has also managed to raise over $7.1 million through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
