The incredible growth of Fortnite and other Battle Royale games in recent years has put in a pinch some of the more traditional shooting licenses, which have had to adapt their gameplay to the new trend in an attempt to maintain their player base. Although most games in the Call of Duty series have nothing to do gameplay-wise with what you can find in Battle Royale titles, we have recently seen the addition of game modes that completely changed the games. This is the case of the Blackout mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Infinity Ward has decided to go one step ahead and release a free-to-play Battle Royale game which is called Call of Duty: Warzone. After several leaks, you can finally watch its first official video and you will be able to play it starting today on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Call of Duty: Warzone features massive battles where up to 150 players will fight for survival through a huge version of the Verdansk map. Players will follow standard Battle Royale mechanics and they will compete in teams of three. You can expect to find a wide range of weapons and vehicles that you can use to achieve victory in this mode.
“Warzone takes place in Verdansk, an expansive city with multiple named zones and well over 300 points of interest. Each zone features distinct landmarks like the Gorengard Lumber Yard or the Gora Dam; the zones take place across different environment types like cities and rural areas for unique engagements. Change up your drop location in each match to get a better lay of the land and take advantage of what Verdansk has to offer.”
Call of Duty: Warzone includes a second gameplay mode called Plunder. It takes place on the same map and players will have to loot money from different areas through the map. Players will have to carry their money and you can even take it to safe stations to save it just in case you are taken out. Money is used to purchase all kinds of items from several stations that are spread through the map.
Although Call of Duty: Warzone is a free-to-play game, players that own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will see their level and character customization options carry over to Warzone. Also, any progress or unlocks that you make while playing Call of Duty: Warzone will be saved and transferred if you decide to purchase Modern Warfare after playing the Battle Royale.
