Overwatch's new character is Echo

Overwatch includes quite a few playable characters and all of them can be accessed without having to pay. Each of them has different abilities and weapons so the huge variety allows for a wide range of tactical approaches to combat even if they fall into three main categories: Tank, Damage and Support. With Overwatch 2 in development, one would think that Blizzard wouldn't be interested in using resources its predecessor but since we may have to wait for a while before we see the new game, the developers have decided to release a new character for Overwatch. This new hero comes in the form of a robot that will be familiar to the fans of the series, Echo. It appeared for the first time in one of Overwatch's cinematic shorts in 2018, which you can watch below.

Blizzard has just released a new video that sheds some light on the origins of Echo, a highly advanced omnic created by Dr. Mina Liao, one of the six founders of Overwatch. Echo's personality is a copy of her creator's and the only trace left of Mina Liao, since she died during the war when her laboratory was attacked. With Echo, the roster of characters available in Overwatch will have an impressive total of 32 members, and although her ability kit has not been revealed yet, everything seems to indicate that Echo will be a DPS class but we won't know it for sure until more information is revealed.

Whatever category she fits in, Echo will be a very welcomed addition to the game, and it will likely be hitting Overwatch's test server very soon. That will allow the players to give a try to her abilities and see what this new character has to offer.
