After being announced for the very first time two years ago and with its first trailer being shown at GamesCom 2019, we could have another look at The Waylanters last night at the beginning of IGN's Summer of Gaming.
The Waylanders is a video game developed by GATO Studios that is defined as an RPG inspired by great classics of the genre like Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect, Pillars of Eternity, or even Baldur's Gate. The game features a fantasy universe based on Celtic mythology in which you play a character who found himself out of time after meeting the Celtic gods. That meeting went wrong, plunging the kingdom into chaos.
In terms of gameplay, one of the main features, which also makes The Waylanders stand out, is the possibility of time travel. Although the details are still unclear, our character can travel between two eras, Celtic and medieval. Like most RPGs, you will have the choice between several races, classes, and you will also be able to recruit companions to help you during tactical battles, but you can also interact with them, discover their history and even live romances. The Waylanders also offers an artistic direction with renowned screenwriters, and a soundtrack by Inon Zur, who has won numerous awards for his compositions.
In addition to all these elements that we have been able to discover, the main news is that The Waylanders will be available in Early Access from June 16 on Steam. As usual, this is not a final version of the game, and according to the developers, Early Access will give players approximately 25% of the game's story. The Waylanders is expected to remain in Early Access for approximately six months and the developers have hinted a final release between late 2020 and early 2021.
