Valve shows Half-Life: Alyx features in three new gameplay videos

The release of Half-Life: Alyx is scheduled for March 23rd but Valve has published three new gameplay videos that show many of the features included in the game. Although we are talking about a VR game, we can see plenty of the in-game mechanics in action for the first time. It's quite interesting to watch Alyx fighting against all types of enemies, including zombies, Combine soldiers and even one of the favorites of the fans of the Half-Life series, the headcrabs.

As you can see in the videos, Alyx will be able to use a variety of weapons to get rid of her enemies but her most useful tool will be her gravity gloves, which allow her to physically interact with her surroundings in multiple ways, but most commonly attracting items. It's quite clear that the game is VR, and that is especially noticeable when you consider the movement system that feels like if Alyx was teleporting from one point to another. On the other hand, the control system allows for many interactions with items that would probably be difficult to recreate if it wasn't a VR game. Even with all that in mind, when you watch the videos it definitely feels that transforming Half-Life: Alyx into a non-VR first-person shooter wouldn't be too hard, and that the game would still deliver quite a good experience while being accessible to a lot more players.

One thing becomes quite clear about Half-Life: Alyx in the videos: Valve has done a great job taking advantage of the opportunities that VR provides. We can watch Alyx picking up grenades thrown at her while in mid-air to throw them back at her opponents, using her shotgun to throw explosive charges, flinging fuel containers and shooting them to make them explode, and more. The possibility of performing such movements will offer the player plenty of options at the time of engaging an opponent, making the combat in Half-Life: Alyx a unique experience.

It looks like Half-Life: Alyx is going to be a great experience for all those that have a VR headset to play the game, but the more we see about the game, the more we are interested in a non-VR version of the game, and we can't stop wondering if Valve is going to consider it sometime in the future.
