AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D officially announced: release date, price, and specifications revealed

AMD has delivered a significant blow to Intel by introducing their gaming-focused Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU shortly after the debut of Arrow Lake. In contrast to Intel's setbacks, AMD has made notable advancements. When it comes to gaming performance, AMD's latest X3D CPU seems to have taken the top spot.

Featuring a base clock speed that is 500MHz higher than its predecessor, along with Zen 5 cores and overclocking capabilities, AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D excels in various aspects compared to its last-generation model. Equipped with a second-generation 3D V-Cache, AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D provides improved thermal performance and faster speeds than the AMD 7800X3D.

On average, AMD asserts that their new 9800X3D is 8% quicker than the 7800X3D. As illustrated below, the performance improvements from AMD can reach as high as 26%. This marks a robust achievement for AMD's latest gaming CPU.

In comparison to Intel's Arrow Lake Core Ultra 9 285K, AMD claims that the new 9800X3D CPU is on average 20% faster. The following section demonstrates AMD’s latest gaming CPU outperforming Intel’s newly launched flagship by as much as 59%. AMD has not merely outperformed Intel; they have decisively triumphed. Assuming the accuracy of AMD’s claims, they have thoroughly defeated Intel with their latest X3D gaming CPUs.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is aimed at enthusiast gamers and will feature a slightly altered die design compared to the Ryzen 5000X3D and 7000X3D CPUs. Unlike its predecessors, the 3D chiplet will sit beneath the CCD rather than being stacked on top. It is set to have a base clock of 4.7 GHz and a boost clock of 5.2 GHz, which can be exceeded through overclocking, as the chip has already been observed reaching over 5.6 GHz with Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO).

AMD is expected to release the CPU on November 7th, with reviews scheduled to go live a day earlier. Although the price has seen a slight increase, Ryzen X3D chips have historically flown off the shelves due to their remarkable gaming performance and exceptional power efficiency.
