Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey – a new video commented by its creator

Announced for the first time in April 2017, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, we have not heard much about it since then. Indeed, only a few images, as well as a trailer published during the Game Awards last December, had come to flesh out the little information we had in the game. It is Patrice Désilets who is in charge of development. If this name does not tell you anything, he is the creator of the Assassin's Creed series, who left Ubisoft in 2013. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey presents itself as a game of survival in an open world, proposing to explore the past of humanity, going back to the Neogene period, between 10 and 2 million BC. Its creator tells us a little more about it in the video below.

So that's what we currently know about Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. To summarize, the game will allow us to freely explore what looks like a huge jungle, which is somewhere in Africa, the cradle of humanity; other landscapes will surely be discovered. We learn in this video that this game offers gameplay focused on survival, so you must ensure primary needs, drink and eat, but also avoid or protect yourself from the many dangers around you. Patrice Désilets reveals that death awaits you at every turn; between predators and bad falls, every misstep will be a lesson for the player. Evolution is also at the heart of the game, and it will even be possible to form clans.

Another feature of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, which surely will surprise many players, is the lack of any kind of maps in the game. Indeed, the creator of the game tells us of his desire to let the players explore the world as they see fit, without imposing a goal on them and not guiding them, giving free rein to their curiosity and creativity. If the fact of not having a map can be destabilizing at first, it could prove to be an additional asset in terms of immersion. As far as the release window is concerned, nothing has yet been specified. However, it is already known that Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey will be released on the Epic Games Store this year, and in 2020 on Steam, due to Epic's temporary exclusivity policy. The launch is also planned on Xbox One and PS4, but we do not know when.
