Assassin's Creed Shadows will change the narrative around Ubisoft's inconsistencies in quality

Franchise head Coté recently discussed the controversy surrounding Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft's current state, and their plans moving forward. Ubisoft has faced ongoing criticism for how they’ve handled historical events in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Additionally, the company’s financial struggles have led to the decision to delay Assassin's Creed Shadows.

It appears that Ubisoft has internally decided to shift its strategy. A recent rumor claims that Ubisoft plans to release a new Assassin's Creed game every six months for the next ten years.

Speaking about Ubisoft's financial downturn at a recent BAFTA event, as reported by Eurogamer, franchise boss Coté expressed that the company needs to "change the narrative" for its future major franchises.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will be Ubisoft's ultimate comeback

According to Coté, players in the modern gaming era have much higher expectations, given the wide variety of games available. "Players can afford to be selective, choosing only the best, and they rightfully demand excellence," Coté said. "Ubisoft's portfolio has faced criticism in recent years for perceived inconsistency in quality."

Now, with Assassin's Creed Shadows representing an opportunity for Ubisoft to shift its narrative, the company must prove it can still meet players' expectations. Coté claims that playtests for Assassin's Creed Shadows have shown immense potential, marking a possible comeback for Ubisoft and setting a new quality benchmark for future franchise entries.

"Assassin's Creed Shadows represents our opportunity to change that narrative—not just for Assassin's Creed but for Ubisoft as a whole."

Coté also reflected on the infamous release of Assassin's Creed Unity back in 2014. The game's ambition to push technical boundaries for the series led to numerous technical issues, game-breaking bugs, crashes, and a convoluted online system that wrecked first impressions, dealing a major blow to the brand.
