Avowed will feature an improved combat system

Avowed is set to be one of the important releases of 2024. Obsidian Entertainment announced its upcoming role-playing game a while ago and since then the studio has revealed plenty of details about it. However, not all of them have had a positive reception. A gameplay showcase of Avowed was released back in January the game looked great in many aspects. However, combat felt kind of clunky and unresponsive.

Fortunately, this will not be the case when the game is released next November as Obsidian has confirmed that it's actively working on making it much better. As a significant element of the adventure, combat plays an important role in the game, and it has been already enhanced with new features. We could already have a peek at it in the recent deep dive video released for the latest Xbox Games Showcase.

Work in progress

Obsidian intended to polish this aspect of Avowed from the start but this process did speed up a lot due to the feedback received after January's video. The enemies and overall combat felt a bit unresponsive in the first video, but the most recent one showed some improvements. Now the developers have confirmed that it's still a work in progress and the version of Avowed available at release should feel even better. Avowed gameplay director Gabe Paramo has talked about this in a recent interview with Windows Central, stating that they anticipated this kind of reaction to the first gameplay video and it made the studio change their priorities.

The release of Avowed on November 12 will offer Obsidian a new opportunity to demonstrate that the studio masters storytelling and keeps being one of the best creating immersive and exciting RPG experiences. The Outer Worlds was a good example of that. We will have to wait a few months to see if Avowed delivers what has been promised. Of course, you can rest assured that the best deals to pre-order Avowed will be available with our comparator ahead of release.
