Baldur’s Gate 3 has been confirmed

A few days ago some rumors about the possible launch of a new installment of the Baldur's Gate series started. The bomb was finally dropped yesterday during Google Stadia event, where Baldur's Gate 3 was announced. We could as well be talking of THE announcement of the year, something that could surpass anything that might be revealed during the upcoming E3 because Baldur's Gate is the most famous role-playing game of all times, the classic of all classics.

Since the original game launched in 1998, every other RPG has been compared with it in one way or another. For the last 20 years, Baldur's Gate and it´s sequels have determined the standard of "epic" in the genre, and most of the fans of Dungeons & Dragons and role-playing games have been hoping to see something remotely close to the series. We even got remastered versions of the original games a while ago. Larian Studios are the ones in charge of developing Baldur's Gate 3. They are the creators of Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel, another two great RPG that have followed the steps of Baldur´s Gate but that also brought a good deal of innovation to the genre with their clever use of the interactions with the scenario to enhance the gameplay and the strategy in the game. It´s great news that they are the ones developing Baldur's Gate 3 because the expectations about the game couldn´t be any higher.

The announcement trailer is very explicit about what could be happening in Baldur's Gate 3. It seems that mind flayers don´t have enough with controlling their good share of the Underdark, and their target is the city that gives the name to our favorite game, Baldur's Gate. If Larian stays true to Forgotten Realms setting we already know what to expect from Baldur's Gate 3: an epic storyline full of twists and turns that will lead a group of heroes through one of the greatest adventures ever told. The combination of the gameplay mechanics shown by Larian in their previous titles with D&D lore and 5th edition ruleset could give birth to a game worth of another 20 years of praise. We can´t wait to know more about it.
