Battlefield 5’s Battle Royale is coming later this month

You can't be a proper shooting game today unless you can offer some Battle Royale to the players. That's at least what DICE seems to think since they are adding a Battle Royale mode to the latest installment in the Battlefield series. It´s nothing to be surprised at if you consider that every other game in the genre seems to be already on Fortnite's bandwagon, trying to get something out of the huge popularity of this type of gameplay.

Firestorm is the name of this new experience developed by Criterion (the studio that created the Need for Speed series) that will be added to the available gameplay modes in Battlefield 5. It will feature matches for up to 64 players that you can play solo or as part of a duo or a squad. This new mode follows the usual Battle Royale gameplay rules: you will be deployed on a scenario, and then you will need to search for weapons, ammunition, and supplies through a playing area that becomes smaller progressively. Killing other players and looting their resources to improve your equipment will be a must in the end if you want to succeed and be the last man standing.

Firestorm takes place in Halvoy, the biggest Battlefield 5 map created to the date and a scenario that shares some features with the other game modes, like the presence of vehicles and destructible environment. Firestorm Battle Royale mode will be available on March 25 on all platforms as a free update for all Battlefield V owners. It´s definitely going to be a different way of looking at the Second World War and we can guess that it was probably not intended that this mode was included in the game originally, but you seem to have to swim with the current, and this time it's quite strong.
