Geralt of Rivia has been the undisputed protagonist of The Witcher series so far, but this is going to change. There were speculations about The Witcher IV having another protagonist. The appearance of a different medallion, the iconic symbol of The Witcher, suggested that the new game could focus on a different character. Yesterday's reveal at The Game Awards 2024 has confirmed that the new adventure from CD Projekt Red will not star Geralt but Ciri. The video shown at the event reveals that she is more than capable of singlehandedly destroying some monsters.

As in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a gloomy world populated by supernatural beings that haunt the living is the perfect place for a Witcher to thrive. Not only is she younger than Geralt, but she is also a woman, which is something that will surely be meaningful to the way she interacts with the world. This opens up new opportunities to develop the story in different ways. Of course, Ciri is not weaker in any way, but she is definitely different and has a lot of potential.
