Controversy follows the announcement of God of War: Ragnarök for PC

It's no secret that Sony has found a gold mine in releasing exclusive PlayStation titles on PC, even years after their original release. God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn are good examples of that, and many others have followed them. Therefore, it's not surprising that the upcoming release of God of War: Ragnarök on PC was confirmed yesterday during the latest State of Play. The fans of the series expected it to happen a bit later as the 20th anniversary of the series will take place next year, but Sony has scheduled the upcoming release for September 19 on PC.

The PC version of God of War: Ragnarök will include the Valhalla DLC and it will feature enhanced graphics with unlocked frame rate, upscaling options, and support for ultra-wide monitors to deliver an outstanding experience that takes advantage of the superior capability of high-end computers. However, the controversy did hit hard soon after the announcement.

Is this like in Helldivers 2 again?

As soon as the game's page on Steam was updated, we discovered that you will need a PSN account to play the game on PC. Sony seems to be pretty stubborn on this matter, even after the huge drama that almost destroyed Helldivers 2 and that the community forced the publisher to back-pedal and cancel its plans. It must be Groundhog Day again. Asking for a PSN account in multiplayer games is somewhat logical. It happened with Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut and nobody made a fuss about it, however, God of War: Ragnarök is a single-player adventure. The real big problem with this is that it blocks players from over 170 countries from playing the game on PC as Steam is available in their countries but PlayStation Network is not.

We don't know yet what kind of impact this will have on the sales of God of War: Ragnarök for PC, but it will be better if we get used to this situation, as Sony seems to be quite adamant on this matter, and you can expect the same happening for future releases. In any case, the best deals to pre-order a God of War: Ragnarök PC key will be available with our comparator ahead of the game's release.
