Cosmic horror game The Chant releases new trailer

Published by Prime Matter and developed by Brass Token, The Chant has been grabbing attention with its glimpses into otherworldly horror, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see if it lives up to its hype. Originally set for an October release, the game has been delayed to November 3. At least it’s not that long a wait.

Here is a new trailer with a closer look at the dangers players will face on the island.

Cults are spooky enough as they burden you with demands on time and money, but The Chant raises the bar by throwing in some Lovecraftian horror into the mix. A single-player third-person survival horror game, you play as an attendee to a commune created by New Age spiritual advisor Tyler Anton, who has repurposed Glory Island just for this venture. Now he is aiming to make his mark on the world with his so-called Prismic Science. Unfortunately, a ritual goes wrong and summons the Gloom, an entity that feeds on the negative energy of people. Clearly, the attendees were not as enlightened as they seemed.

The island quickly turns into a spiritual battleground as you fight an array of psychedelic monsters and cultists released from the Gloom, even as you try to piece together the island’s cryptic history.

The game apparently has a crafting system to let you handle the threats you’ll encounter. You can engage in melee combat but also need to beware and protect yourself against the panic of being near such horrific creatures. The game also states you can gain some advantage in combat by using spiritual abilities through meditation.

Barring any more delays, The Chant will launch on November 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. Pre-order a The Chant PS5 key from our comparator ahead of the launch.
