Crossplay may be coming to Terraria soon

Even though Terraria is a game that has been available for quite a long time, developer Re-Logic still has expansion plans for this sandbox adventure game. Terraria was released in 2011, and it has grown quite a lot since then. With exploration at its core, the game features a variety of gameplay mechanics, including crafting, survival, mining, building, and more. Therefore, you can maintain yourself quite busy as you explore a procedurally generated world in 2D. Overall, Terraria offers you a lot of freedom and plenty of surprises, and it has become a cult game over the years.

So many years after its release, it would be reasonable to think that Re-Logic is done with its game, but that would be far from true. Terraria was meant to get its final update in October 2020, but its creators still have things that they want to add to the game. In fact, the developer studio is planning to add crossplay to allow players from different platforms to enjoy the game together. Re-Logic head Ted Murphy has discussed this matter, stating the following during an interview with PC Gamer.

"We really want to take a shot at crossplay for PC-console-mobile, Our mobile and console team has been able to develop nearly in parallel with us on PC during Labor of Love—so this work might start sooner than later. An exciting hill to climb to be sure, but one we are eager to attempt."

Although the statement leaves the addition of crossplay as just a possibility, it would be a welcomed feature. It definitely will require a lot of work, as Terraria is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and mobile devices.
