Death Stranding Director's Cut comes to Xbox Series

Death Stranding Director's Cut comes to Xbox Series

Death Stranding is finally available to Xbox Series players five years after its original release. 505 Games and Kojima Productions surprised everyone by announcing the launch of Death Stranding Director's Cut for the Xbox Series. Initially released in 2019 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, the game later received a director's version on PlayStation 5 and then arrived on PC.

This release comes five years after the game's debut, which celebrates its anniversary on Friday, November 8. The game began a new IP from director Hideo Kojima, famous for creating and directing the Metal Gear franchise during his time at Konami. It's worth noting that Kojima isn't involved in the Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater remake. The release of Death Stranding on the Xbox Series is likely a result of Kojima Productions acquiring the IP, as revealed by the Japanese outlet Automaton-media. Previously, Death Stranding's IP was owned by Sony, and something must have prompted this change.

Death Stranding Director's Cut Launches on Xbox Series

In a statement, Kojima Productions highlighted that it will continue to connect more fans worldwide through various forms of entertainment. Expanding the title to new platforms suggests that the sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, planned for a 2025 release on PlayStation 5, may eventually reach other audiences. However, the sequel might be a timed exclusive for PlayStation 5 before later releases on platforms like PC and Xbox Series.

The Director's Cut, released by 505 Games, includes performance upgrades and additional elements to enhance the experience on the new generation consoles. The studio director, Hideo Kojima, thanked fans for their patience and support, especially the Xbox users who were awaiting this version. Death Stranding is now available on Xbox with a launch discount.

Meanwhile, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is still in development. Kojima frequently promotes the game through social media and events like The Game Awards. All actors involved also occasionally participate in these announcements, including Norman Reedus, the protagonist. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is slated for a 2025 release, though no specific date has been set. The first game saw no delays, and it's improbable the second will be delayed unless it's scheduled too close to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI.
