Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie. It was originally released as a pay to play game in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. It became free-to-play, utilizing the games as a service model, under the New Light title on October 1, 2019, followed by the game's release on Stadia the following month, and then PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms in December 2020. The game was published by Activision until December 31, 2018, when Bungie acquired the publishing rights to the franchise. It is the sequel to 2014's Destiny and its subsequent expansions.
Set in a "mythic science fiction" world, the game features a multiplayer "shared-world" environment with elements of role-playing games. Like the original, activities in Destiny 2 are divided among player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) game types. In addition to normal story missions, PvE features three-player "strikes" and dungeons and six-player raids. A free roam patrol mode is also available for each destination which feature public events as well as activities not available in the original. These activities have an emphasis on exploration of the destinations and interactions with non-player characters (NPCs); the original Destiny only featured NPCs in social spaces. PvP features objective-based modes, as well as traditional deathmatch game modes.
On February 29th, the Destiny 2 team announced on the game's official website that the annual tournament called "THE ANNUAL GUARDIAN GAMES CUP" would officially return:
It’s once again time for our annual Guardian Game’s Cup! Guardian Games Cup 2024 is a team-based competition beginning at 9:00 PST on March 5, 2024, and concluding at 09:59 AM PDT on March 26, 2024. Teams will compete in the Technical and Charitable categories. The Technical category tracks each officially registered team’s total number of Medallions dunked during Guardian Games All-Stars. The Charitable category tracks the total amount raised through the team’s official Bungie Foundation sign-up page throughout the same period.
Bungie also announced the prizes for the categories in The Annual Guardian Games Cup:
The top four teams in each category will be awarded prizes, including:
- The first-place teams in each category: life-size physical Allstar Vector Skimmer replica with the team’s names engraved (one per team per category).
- Top two teams in each category: Guardian Games Medals ($50 MSRP) for each team member (maximum of six per team per category).
- Top three teams in each category: Binary Cascade emblem codes for each team member (maximum of six per team per category).
- Top four teams in each category: Bungie Store $50 discount codes for each team member (maximum of six per team per category)
During Guardian Games, players will compete in a series of class-based activities to determine which class is the best. Players participating in Guardian Games should focus on either hitting a score threshold by achieving strike scores through the Guardian Games playlist, or by banking Medallions at the Tower Podium. Upon reaching the score threshold players will be rewarded a special glow while at the Tower.
The player at the Tower with the highest weekly score will receive a unique glow. These glows remain active until the weekly reset, or until Guardian Games ends. Players can stay up to date on which Class is winning by checking the Tower Podium, the various Class Flags placed at the Tower, as well as the Guardian Games calendar accessible in-game.
Players interested in participating in this annual tournament can register on the Tiltify campaign page and they also need to provide their Bungie ID.
The latest Destiny 2 DLC, titled "The Final Shape," will be officially released on June 4, 2024, serving as the conclusion to the storyline of the "first saga" in the game. To get the best deals for Destiny 2: The Final Shape, we highly recommend using dLcompare's price comparison tool.
