Don't wait for a Baldur's Gate III expansion

Even though the success of Baldur's Gate III is something that everyone saw coming, its magnitude has surprised even its creators. Larian Studios, represented by its director Swen Vincke, has confirmed that it wasn't expecting such a big number of concurrent players on Steam after the game was in Early Access for a year. They assumed that those playing the game would slowly explore the new episodes in the campaign because they would be saturated with the game already. Of course, they are quite happy about the majority of the people having an outstanding experience, but there is a question that is starting to appear in the minds of those that have already finished the game: what's next?

Don't you have enough?

Baldur's Gate III offers a branching storyline with countless quests and additional paths for you to explore. The Dungeons and Dragons rule system that the game uses as a base is well known to many players, but it also holds the key to the answer to the question about future Baldur's Gate III expansions. Currently, the level cap in the game is 12, and as any seasoned D&D player knows, the adventures that you have access to beyond that level are on a different scale. They start to imply politics, significantly more powerful opponents, and much bigger challenges. Therefore, creating any possible Baldur's Gate III expansion would be a lot of work, and Larian has already stated that its next project would be something smaller.

Larian Studios' Swen Vincke has settled this matter in an interview with PC Gamer:

"I've learned in the past you need to be careful announcing things before they're ready, because sometimes you have to cancel them because they don't work out. We could work on an expansion and it could be boring, and we should stop working on it. Because if we would continue on something that's boring, we would then have to sell it to you, and then we'd have to say 'here's a boring thing, and we want you to buy it.' That would not be cool. So we have to have the freedom to experiment and do our stuff. And then when we're ready to announce it we will."

Fortunately, Baldur's Gate III has more than enough content for you to explore and offers many hours of fun as it offers you different choices almost on every step you take.
