Dragon's Dogma II won't cap framerate on consoles

The few Dragon's Dogma II videos released to date have confirmed that the game will feature impressive graphics that will help a lot with the immersion. Adding "performance" game modes is quite common nowadays in the world of video games, as these help to take advantage of the superior hardware configuration of a platform. In most cases, these are available on PCs as these can have significantly better GPUs than the consoles. Many console versions are released with a limit in the frames but it will not be the case for Dragon's Dogma II.

No graphics modes

Dragon's Dogma II director Hideaki Itsuno has confirmed that the game won't feature multiple graphics modes and its framerate will be uncapped for the console versions.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Itsuno delved into this matter and revealed that the overall goal is to have Dragon's Dogma II running at 30 FPS or higher on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

"The game has an uncapped framerate. We're aiming to go at around or higher than 30 FPS. That is for consoles as well. There are some functions that you can turn on and off, but there aren't multiple sets of options that you can change at once [likely alluding to visual presets seen in the options of other games on consoles today]. But yeah, the frame rate will come uncapped for all consoles."

Such an uncommon approach to graphics prevents players from having to worry about what preset to choose in order to get the best game experience and allows them to focus on enjoying the game to the fullest from the start without having to worry about fidgeting with the graphics settings. After all, consoles have defined their capabilities from the start and they are not like the PC, which can harbour a much wider range of hardware and software to handle graphics.

Dragon's Dogma II is shaping up to become one of the most exciting releases of the year. The long-awaited sequel to Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the classic open-world action adventure created by Capcom, will launch in a couple of weeks.
