Dune has been a classic of the sci-fi genre for quite a long time, but the most recent release of a new film adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel brought it back to the big public in a new shape. The film's huge success in theatres contributed to making it popular again and we saw the release of Dune: Spice Wars, a new strategy game with the backdrop of the conflict for the control of spide production in Arrakis. However, a more ambitious project centered on Dune was announced by Funcom a few years ago, and since then, the fans of the franchise have kept an eye on it. Dune: Awakening is a survival multiplayer game set in the desertic planet Arrakis, where players will strive to survive while trying to build their own empire. A lengthy video revealed during the last Gamescom showcased some exciting moments and unique gameplay features.

Release date

Developer Funcom has finally revealed the release date for Dune: Awakening. The game will be available to play on PC from May 20, 2025, and it will offer players an experience set in a massive open world representing Arrakis. However, the game won't follow the story in the original novels and features an alternate story. Players will have the power to rise as important figures in the future of Arrakis amidst a brutal war between House Atreides and House Harkonen.
