Dune: Awakening is having development problems

Releasing a new video game is always complicated, especially when you have to make it work on different platforms. This is the case for the upcoming open-world survival MMORPG set in the universe from Frank Herbert's books, Dune: Awakening. Developer Funcom is well known for its games inspired by popular novels, especially those revolving around Conan and its world, like Conan Exiles. Now the developer is working on a new ambitious project that will let you discover how hard is to survive on the desertic surface of Arrakis.

Dune: Awakening takes place in an alternate version of the story where Paul Atreides never existed, leaving a world where House Atreides and House Harkonnen still compete to control the production of Spice and the Fremen are still a force to be reckoned with. You are to decide your own path on a planet that continues to be the most dangerous with extreme weather conditions, terrible sandstorms, gigantic sandworms, and political machinations that can swallow anyone unprepared.

Too ambitious for smaller consoles

Dune: Awakening was announced a few months ago, and Funcom has revealed many details about the game since then, including the most recent gameplay video which was shown at the latest Gamescom. The game looks spectacular and very solid, and it has the potential to become one of the biggest hits of the Norwegian company if it delivers what it promises. However, the development of Dune: Awakening seems to be more complicated than expected. especially when it comes to adapting it to Xbox Series S.

According to the studio, the limited capabilities of Microsoft's console compared to PS5 and Xbox Series X are giving the developers a bit of a headache to progress as fast as they expected. Therefore, Funcom would have opted to focus on the PC version of Dune: Awakening. So far, there is no news about the game releasing separately on consoles and PC, but since there is no confirmed release date yet, there is enough time to catch up for the console version for a possible release next year.

Hopefully, everything will be in place for next year and we should be able to enjoy this unique survival experience set in the sands of Arrakis sometime in 2025. Until then, you can keep an eye on the best prices to pre-order Dune: Awakening with our comparator.
