Edgerunners gives Cyberpunk 2077 a popularity boost

CD Projekt Red has a very productive relationship with Netflix and its series. First, the huge success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt provided the final push needed so a Netflix series inspired by Geralt of Rivia was created. A similar thing happens with Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners, but this time, the TV series is the one that has given a popularity boost to the game. Although it's true that Cyberpunk 2077 was finally recovering from its terrible launch in recent months, the game still suffered from a certain bad press that was keeping many players away. But the release of Edgerunners on Netflix has contributed to increasing the number of players showing an interest in the video game.

Developer CD Projekt Red has acknowledged this fact via Twitter with an announcement that reveals that more than one million players have been accompanying V on a tour for Night City during the last week. In fact, the price drop of Cyberpunk 2077 coupled with the developer's hard work to fix all its problems has positioned the game among the most played on Steam.

It's not strange that CD Project Red has already announced the Phantom Liberty expansion for 2023, which will expand Night City with a new area and bring back the infamous Johnny Silverhand. To prevent any problems at launch, it won't be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but that does not seem to stop Cyberpunk 2077 from growing on a daily basis, which is definitely great.
