Publisher 505 Games and developers Rabbit & Bear Studios and Natsume Atari announced the release date for Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, May 10th. Rising is a 2.5D action RPG prequel to Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, considered the spiritual successor of the Suikoden JRPG series for featuring veterans who worked for the latter.
Eiyuden Chronicle's story is being written by Yoshitaka Murayama, writer of the first two Suikoden. That's refreshing, considering that the plot was a highlight of the series, especially in the second installment. Character design is in the hand of Junko Kawano, who designed for the first Suikoden, and pretty much everything she created was used in the second game.
The adventure follows three characters: CJ, Isha, and Garoo. They are on a journey to mine the magical fountain of Rune Lens, hidden underground in the city of New Neveah, and rebuild it with all the materials scavenged.
Venturing into dungeons to find materials and rebuild the city is a major feature in Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. Restoring the city will allow you to obtain benefits transferable to Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes later on - set to release in 2023 - such as cosmetic items, valuable equipment, and trade goods. In addition, you will be able to name weapons and delicacies. The Suikoden series was well-known for its expansive cast of 108 playable characters. The more you recruited, the bigger your castle got and the more facilities it offered.
As for what to expect from Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising's combat, CJ uses climbing axes to make quick attacks, and Garoo uses a giant sword to slash enemies wherever they are on the battlefield. On the other hand, Isha fights from a distance using magic. You can also swap characters mid-battle, and the trio can also employ Link Attacks combining their expertise.
JRPG fans can't let this game slip by. Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising launches May 10th for PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox One and Series, Switch, and PC. You can already secure your copy by checking out our games deals and gear up for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
