Epic Games acquires Fall Guys studio

Epic Games acquires Fall Guys studio

Epic Games seems to be decided to make even a bigger name for itself in the world of video games. Not only they are the creators of the Unreal Engine and Fortnite, a revolutionary game that has surpassed any other in terms of popularity and changed many things in video games. They have also created their own digital distribution platform, Epic Games Store, which has become a real headache for Valve's Steam, the one that previously controlled almost the whole market of video games on PC. But they have not stopped there, and they give away full games every week that you can keep permanently and they sign up exclusivity deals for upcoming games securing their launch on Epic Games Store. They are going one step further now and have started to buy new studios.

Yesterday, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout developer Mediatonic published a tweet on its official account revealing that the studio is joining the Epic Games family. The announcement came as a total surprise. Many of us were wondering about the future steps of the developer after launching one of the biggest hits of 2020. Fall Guys was a total success in the year of the pandemic and millions of players across several platforms have become fans of the funny-looking beans starring this battle royale platformer.

Leaving aside the implications that this purchase may have for both companies, the only thing left is to find out what will change for the players. Mediatonic has published an official statement where they explain everything. Luckily enough it leaves quite clear that players will continue enjoying the same experience in Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and also reveal that they plan to continue working on the game, launching it on Nintendo Switch and adding brand new features like cross-play, squad vs squad modes and more.

Fueled by its own success, Epic Games' ambition seems to have no limits and they may surprise us with more purchases like this in the future.
