F1 24 has become the inaugural game to incorporate Intel XeSS 2

The release of update 1.16 for F1 24 introduces support for Intel XeSS 2, Intel’s advanced upscaling solution. With XeSS 2, Intel has enhanced XeSS by introducing AI-driven frame generation. Furthermore, Intel has developed XeLL (Xe Low Latency) to enhance game responsiveness by minimizing input delays.

According to the patch notes on Steam, F1 24’s final update of the year is version 1.16 and coincides with several Season 4 events. In addition to new content, this update includes “numerous graphics enhancements,” with the inclusion of XeSS 2 being a significant element. Here are a few important points to note regarding the v1.16 update:

  • Support for XeSS 2 has been added, which will be activated on compatible hardware with an upcoming Intel driver update (PC Only).
  • Resolution of an issue that, in certain cases, caused graphical problems for users with specific Anti-Aliasing settings and Dynamic Resolution Enabled (PC Only).
  • Post-update v1.16, settings related to Anti-Aliasing, DLSS, FSR, and/or Dynamic Resolution may have been reset. It is advisable to check in-game Graphics settings to ensure preferences are adjusted accordingly.

The patch notes indicate that F1 24 will support XeSS Frame Generation (XeSS-FG) and Xe Low Latency (XeLL). The game previously supported XeSS Super Resolution (XeSS-SR), which was part of Intel’s first-generation upscaling technology. Intel showcased the game demonstrating this upscaling, frame generation, and low latency technology, achieving up to three times the framerate and a 50% decrease in latency.

Unfortunately, Intel has not yet issued driver updates for their hardware that enable XeSS 2 support. XeSS 2 is only operable on “supporting hardware,” which suggests compatibility will be limited to Intel graphics cards. Xe Frame Generation (XeFG) might only function with Intel Battlemage and Alchemist GPUs. However, further clarification from Intel is anticipated upon the release of their XeSS 2 driver. It’s unlikely that XeSS Frame Generation will be available for non-Intel GPUs.

XeSS 2 will soon be implemented in additional games, with Intel confirming updates for titles such as Dying Light 2, Robocop, Marvel’s Rivals, and more.
