FIFA 23 lets you turn off negative commentary

FIFA 23 lets you turn off negative commentary

Look out, football fans. FIFA 23, FIFA's final outing on EA Sports, promises loads of features when it finally launches on September 30. Curiously, one of these is the ability to switch off critical commentary during games.

No judgment

Switching this off means that commentators Derek Rae and Stewart Robson won’t criticize how bad you’re playing, though they will continue to say their usual spiel during a game. This feature was probably placed there to help you save face in front of friends and family. However, initial test plays show that some negative commentary can still seep through, so your mileage may vary.

Commentary aside, there are several other features worth mentioning.

FIFA 23 comes with a Web app and companion app, released just this September 21 and 22, respectively. These apps let you manage your FUT on your computer or mobile device, possibly giving you an early edge over other players.

Next, FIFA 23 features crossplay, allowing you to challenge players from all over the world regardless of the platform they use: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Stadia, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Greater authenticity

FIFA 23 also welcomes new clubs and leagues. Juventus makes a triumphant return to the series, as does Serie B. Some players from Celtic Glasgow and Rangers FC will get actual face scans for greater authenticity.

As mentioned in a previous article, FIFA 23 will feature women’s clubs for the first time—specifically, Barclays FA Women's Super League and France's Division 1 Arkema. Unfortunately, it’s only two compatitions, and they have no Career Mode or FUT integration. Hopefully, this improves in future EA games.

Finally, you can now play as real-life coaches in Career Mode. As the official website puts it:

“Live out your football dreams as a coach or as a player, define your personality as a player, take on the role of some of the most famous coaches in the football world and look forward to a new way to play out your season with Playable Highlights.”
