Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 gets new development update

The highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake, debuted in February 2024 and has received widespread critical acclaim. Despite being one of the highest-rated games in the long-running series, Square Enix has stated that the game fell short of sales expectations. This has become a key factor in their shift in strategy toward multi-platform releases.

While we recently got a new update for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the PS5 Pro—promising to deliver the best possible experience for PS5 Pro users—news about the remake trilogy's third installment is already surfacing.

The third and final entry in the trilogy was revealed by a senior Square Enix official to be in active development. As reported by Japanese website 4Gamer.net, during the G-CON 2024 convention in South Korea, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the third game's plot has been fully mapped out and its overall concept finalized. As a result, FFVII Remake Part 3 is already in active development.

You will be able to fly around the map with the Highwind Airship

Despite Square Enix not revealing many details about the project, Hamaguchi mentioned the Highwind from Final Fantasy VII during the convention. Ever since Square Enix confirmed that the iconic airship will appear in Final Fantasy VII Part 3, fans have speculated on how the company will implement it. Some claim that Square Enix may simply use the Highwind as a substitute for a fast travel system.

Hamaguchi reassured fans that this won’t be the case, stating that they won’t cut corners with the airship system. He confirmed that players will actually have the freedom to fly around the map. Square Enix has also mentioned that the Highwind will play an important role in the story of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, making it essential to let players experience the game’s world from a "higher perspective," Hamaguchi revealed.
