Final Fantasy XVI PC release date is announced

Square Enix has released a new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI titled Deliverance, showcasing story segments and gameplay. At the end of the video, the PC release date was revealed. Final Fantasy XVI will arrive on Steam and the Epic Games Store on September 17, 2024. A Final Fantasy XVI demo is available for those who want to test and see how the RPG runs on their PC.

Final Fantasy XVI is the sixteenth mainline entry from Square Enix, not counting direct sequels like Final Fantasy X-2. The RPG follows the story of Clive Rosfield, the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria. After cataclysmic events in his life, Clive begins to wield the power of the Eikons on a journey of vengeance and strife, with the sole aim of destroying the crystals that have governed the world's history thus far. Final Fantasy XVI is helmed by battle director Ryota Suzuki, known for his work on several Devil May Cry games, the latest being Devil May Cry 5, making this the first Final Fantasy to embrace action-RPG gameplay fully.

Final Fantasy XVI PC Release Date Trailer

The PC version of Final Fantasy XVI will be priced at $49.99. At the same time, a Complete Edition will be available for $69.99, which includes the two DLCs released throughout the year: Echoes of the Fallen and Rising Tide. Final Fantasy XVI sold 3 million units in its launch week, and Square Enix stated that the game met its expectations. However, after restructuring the Japanese publisher's management and changing CEO, new director Takashi Kiryu mentioned that the game sold less than anticipated. The release of Final Fantasy XVI on PC aims to bolster Square Enix's sales and demonstrate that its strategy to go multiplatform was the right choice.

In 2023, Final Fantasy XVI was nominated for GOTY, Best Performance, Best Narrative, Best Role Playing Game, and Best Score & Music. The game won in the Best Score & Music category, with composer Masayoshi Soken accepting the award on stage. Although Ben Starr, the voice actor for Clive Rosfield, didn't win the prize, the RPG elevated his fame to new heights, and his voice is now easily recognized in other games, such as the upcoming Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Final Fantasy XVI was released for PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023, and is finally coming to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
