Forspoken Blitzes to PS5 in Early 2022

The recent PlayStation Network Showcase has loads of notable games, but one title that has steadily picked up buzz is the newly announced game Forspoken. Teased a year before, it was called Project Athia before publisher Square Enix announced its final title.

There’s very little information released on the game itself, but the trailer speaks volumes.

Described as a narrative-driven action RPG, Forspoken features dynamic movement that's been the hallmark of titles like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Sekiro but this time imbued with magic. Players will be able to travel with ninja-like speed and agility anywhere in the open and procedurally generated world. They will also be gifted with magical abilities, allowing them to hurl flaming bolts and trap enemies with ice and water.

Forspoken focuses on Frey Holland (Ella Balinska), a troubled twenty-something who is pulled through a portal, landing in the strange new world of Athia. Her only companion is a talking bracelet called Cuff (Jonathan Cake), who acts as her guide through the realm and presumably helps her with her newfound powers. Equally noteworthy is the character of Tanta Sila (Janina Gavankar), a former guardian of Athia who has turned tyrant and will likely play as a powerful antagonist to Frey.

Forspoken also boasts of top talent behind the scenes. Composers Gary Schyman (Bioshock) and Bear McCreary (God of War 2018) are writing music for the game, while writers include Gary Whitta (Star Wars: Rogue One), Amy Hennig (the Uncharted series), Allison Rhymer (Shadowhunters), and Todd Stashwick (Devil Inside).

Ella Balinska (2019 Charlie’s Angels), who provides Frey's voice and motion capture, says this about the production process.

When will Forspoken be released?
