The Game Awards ceremony took place yesterday night and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was selected as the Game of the Year 2019, but the event was the perfect scenario to announce many of the upcoming video games that will be released in the following months. Microsoft used the opportunity to announce the launch of a new title in the Gears of War franchise, but this time it's not going to be part of the main series. Gears Tactics was revealed in the video that you can watch below, and it looks really good.
Planet Sera will be once more the scenario of battles between the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) and the Union of Independent Republics (UIR). In Gears Tactics, the story will be focused on a period preceding the heroic acts of Marcus Fenix and his teammates, which are followed in the main storyline of Gears of War. This new game abandons the classic third-person shooting genre to deliver turn-based strategic gameplay very similar to what you can find in the games of the XCOM series or the recently released Phoenix Point.
Developed by The Coalition, Gears Tactics will feature a more aggressive approach to the genre with a lot of customization options for the squad and a long story-driven single-player campaign. On this occasion, the developers are intending to leave microtransactions out of the game, even cosmetic ones, a fact that has been confirmed by Rod Fergusson on Twitter.
For those asking, #GearsTactics is single player and has no micro transactions. Not even cosmetic ones. Everything is earned in game.

If you are a fan of Gears of War, you won't have to wait for too long before being able to play Gears Tactics, because there is already an official release date for the launch of the game on PC and Xbox One: April 28, 2020.
