God of War: Ragnarok sells more than 5M copies in a week

God of War: Ragnarok has turned in a godly profit after the highly anticipated sequel to the Sony Santa Monica action hit. According to PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst, this makes Ragnarok the fastest-selling PlayStation game ever created, beating out 2020’s The Last of Us Part 2 (at least until a new God of War sequel comes along).

Just for comparison, its predecessor God of War sold 3.1 million copies worldwide.

Ragnarok means the end

It’s not all good news, however. It turns out that the massive scope of the game means that there may be no DLCs for it moving forward. When asked about it on the Kinda Funny Games podcast, Ragnarok director Eric Williams said, "I don't know, man, that game is big. I think we put everything we had into it, so I wouldn't count on it."

God of War also didn’t have a DLC attached to it, so it’s not a total surprise. The only updates we can look forward to are patches like the recent version 2.04, which has exactly two fixes: for a bug that prevented changes to the difficulty level in-game, and a crash when using the weapons menu. Another likely change would be a PC port, though there is currently no word on that.

In related news, Eric Williams mentioned on the same podcast what game he would like to do next: Castlevania. “I don’t know what I’m doing next,” he said, “but if somebody gets me that Castlevania license, we would love to make that.” This was a statement he regretted immediately after, saying he “just got in so much trouble” for saying it.
