Guerrilla details the beasts in Horizon Forbidden West

One of the most exciting aspects of the world where Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel Horizon Forbidden West take place is that the dominant species are not humans anymore. Robotic beasts of all kinds created by ancient technology have made this beautiful world their home, and humans can barely survive by hunting them and gathering resources. We can now discover a bit more about these metallic beasts and the form they will take in Guerrilla Game's upcoming adventure game thanks to a publication on the PlayStation blog. Guerrilla community Lead, Bo de Vries, has published an article where he and other developers in the team focus on how they created these gigantic dinosaur-like creatures and the kind of interactions that players will have with them in the game.

Principal Machine Designer Blake Politeski reveals that there is a lot more behind Horizon Forbidden West development than just adding several random monsters:

We're getting to explore a new area within the world of Horizon. It was interesting to figure out what type of machines would live in different ecological zones, and how they would interact with each other, their environment, and of course humans. Machines are the so-called caretakers of this world, so how they perform their roles and what the player can do to use these behaviors to their advantage was always interesting to consider.

What new monsters will we find in Horizon Forbidden West?

Horizon Forbidden West will bring back some of the machines that populated the world in Horizon Zero Dawn. The Watcher and the Snapmaw are just a couple of examples, but Aloy will meet plenty of new machines while traversing the world in the new game. Bird-like creatures like the Sunwing, the agile Clawstrider, or the gigantic Tremortusk will soon become familiar to the players, and they will have to devise appropriate ways of facing them if they want to progress in the game. Of course, Aloy will have plenty of new weapons, ammunition types, and devices to deal with the new beasts, but learning about their behavior and weak spots will be a must in order to tame or defeat them.

Guerrilla Games has created a post-apocalyptic world like no other that will appeal to fans of the series and newcomers. Horizon Forbidden West takes its predecessor as a foundation to expand that world and make it more alive than ever.
