It has been more than six years now since Blizzard launched its card game Hearthstone. The game was received with mixed opinions at the time. Some players were enthusiastic about the idea of a competitive deck-building game based on the Warcraft universe. Some others considered some aspects of it too simplistic or even too childish. But Hearthstone has won over players, and its competitive aspect has even taken it to the eSport scene. The game has received numerous patches and expansions in its six years of existence, but a new update will have a major impact on the gameplay.
Hearthstone's Battlegrounds mode was added in 2019, and it's about to get a significant refresh that will thoroughly transform the gameplay experience while adding new content:
"To start, we're introducing an entirely new Battlegrounds specific keyword, Avenge, that does something after (x) friendly minions die. Then, we're replacing 37 minions with new ones and adding two new Heroes!"
The two heroes mentioned above are Master Nguyen, whose power is to choose between two at the beginning of each turn, and Cariel Roame, who can boost minions. By the way, while 37 new minions will be added, others will also be removed. In addition to this new content, some Battlegrounds mode features have been revised, the main one being the number of damage points that a player can take at the start of the game:
"We've added a damage cap of 15 damage until the first player dies, meaning that no player can take more than 15 damage from combat until the first player in a lobby dies or disconnects."
In practical terms, this means that a player can't literally run over their opponent, although we don't know if this will please everyone. The length of the turns will also be increased too.
To check out the complete list of changes coming to Battlegrounds mode and the full list of new minions, you can visit the official Hearthstone website. The 21.2 update will be available today, hopefully from 7 pm UK time. It will be free to all players, of course.
