Hitman 3: unlocking location controversy has been solved

The release of Hitman 3 is around the corner and the reveal about the final details around it have caused some unexpected trouble to developer IO Interactive this weekend. As you probably know if you have been following us, if you own Hitman 2 you will have access to additional locations in the new game. In fact, IO promised that all Hitman 2 maps would be available on Hitman 3 for all those that own the second installment in the series. But last Friday we discovered that that could not be the case. The developer couldn't find a way to transfer players’ licenses from Steam to the Epic Store. Therefore, players would need to buy Hitman 2 on EGS to unlock its content for Hitman 3, as the new game is exclusive to that platform.

Of course, this reveal caused a lot of complaints, especially from players that had pre-ordered Hitman 3 and expected to access all the content from the previous games they owned on Steam. Initially, IO Interactive offered a huge 80% discount on the Access Pass that would make all that content available on Hitman 3, but they have chosen a new strategy to avoid forcing players to pay for content they already own on PC.

“On PC, we are continuing to work on a solution with our partners to allow PC players who own Hitman 1 or Hitman 2 to import locations from those games into Hitman 3 at no additional cost. We can guarantee that players will NOT need to repurchase the games. Until we roll that out in the coming weeks, the Hitman 1 GOTY Access Pass will be free to own for all PC players who pre-purchase or purchase Hitman 3 in the first ten days after release.”

Even though a permanent solution will still need some time to be worked out, Hitman 3 developer is willing to honor its word. The pre-launch guide of the game has been updated to reflect the changes and we hope that they reveal how to import Hitman 2 locations as soon as possible.
