Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed

Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed

After more than two years of rumors, and even the leak of a supposed trailer, Hogwarts Legacy was officially announced at the Playstation Showcase last September. We were able to watch a first video showing beautiful images but that didn't reveal any hints about gameplay, which also announced a release for 2021. As you must imagine, this will ultimately not be the case.

The bad news was announced via the game's official Twitter account with the following message:

We would like to thank fans around the world for the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label. Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs. Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.

It seems that Avalanche Software, which is in charge of the development of Hogwarts Legacy, needs more time to finish the game. We are not given more details on the exact reasons for this delay but it's probably for a good reason. It's also likely that what CD Projekt Red is going through right now with the rather tumultuous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has caused Warner Bros. to be very careful, especially since Hogwarts Legacy will also be a cross-gen game. That would also explain why we haven't heard from the game since its announcement in September.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action-adventure RPG set in the late 1800s, well before the events of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series. In the game, we will play as a newcomer to Hogwarts who discovers that he is the only one who can wield very ancient magic, having to choose whether he uses it to do good or evil. All of this will be discovered in Hogwarts Legacy, in 2022.
