IO Interactive seems to be quite ambitious with Project 007

Back in November 2020, IO Interactive announced that the studio is working on a new project based on the James Bond license. Very few things have been unveiled about this new game, and it's for a good reason. In January we could see quite a few job offers from the studio, including one for a producer position, which suggested that Project 007 was only at the very beginning of the development process.

Although the studio announced that Agent 47 is not gonna be their main priority for a while, it is still working on the last installment of the trilogy, Hitman 3, and has to get ready all the post-launch content planned for the game. In particular, the expansion The Seven Deadly Sins will be divided into seven acts, and only the first of them has been recently released.

But we have discovered a couple of things about the mysterious Project 007 that has remained an enigma until now. It was Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, who spoke at IGN's microphone:

"It's important to mention: doing a licensed game is new to us. So, I think for us to really embrace this fully, and really, as I said before, we don't like to work 'mechanical.' It's not just because it's a big IP, or it's a licensed game, and commercially this is interesting... It means nothing to us. We've taken a lot of non-commercial risks before. So, for us, it's about... we need to feel it, deep inside. The passion needs to be there, so it was very important for us that it wasn't a movie adaptation. So, it wasn't a game about... a specific movie, where the story has already been told."

Therefore, Project 007 will feature a completely original story and won't be based on any of the films. Hakan Abrak added that they are drawing inspiration from the entire universe of the license. It must be said that James Bond has evolved quite a bit over the years and the license is an ideal foundation for a video game. We can't wait to know more about all this.
