Lords of the Fallen showcases unbelievable technical detail

One of the standouts from the State of Unreal’s technical showcase is Lords of the Fallen, an upcoming dark fantasy RPG that’s built on Unreal Engine 5. By the looks of it, shaping up to give Elden Ring a run for its money. Developer Hexworks Games is aiming to “create the most immersive game experience possible." You can check out the Lords of the Fallen gameplay trailer here:

Rebuilt from the ground up

A few crucial things have changed about Lord of the Fallen. Primarily, it doesn’t appear to be a straight remake of 2014’s “Lords of the Fallen” anymore, with the determiner “the” dropped from the title. Secondly, the protagonist Harkyn has been replaced with a character creator, much like with other Souls games. With the character creator comes various options to determine everything from your character’s body shape to their haircut. The developers state that they used 3D scans of actual people to come up with character models. All clothing and armor the players wear will conform to the shape of their character’s body. Also, there will be a wider range of classes than before, including the Black Feather Ranger and Pyromancer.

Another impressive feature is the ability for players to switch between two co-existing realities: Axiom, the land of the living, and Umbral, the world of the dead. By raising a magic lantern, you can reveal the Umbral layer from beneath Axiom’s reality and pass between worlds. Add to that the dynamic lighting of UE5 and you have one gorgeous-looking grimdark game.

Lords of the Fallen is set to release sometime this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. If you’re looking to play this Souls-like RPG, keep an eye on our comparator for a cheap Lords of the Fallen PC key.
