Sorry, Marvel fans. Firaxis has announced that its newest strategy game, Marvel's Midnight Suns, will not make its March 2022 launch window and instead will move to some time in the second half of 2022.
According to Creative Director Jake Solomon and senior franchise producer Garth DeAngelis that Midnight Suns required more time to make the best possible game. They promised that the final product would “add more story, cinematics and overall polish.”
Midnight Suns is a strategy game that pits Marvel characters against supernatural forces. Fan favorites Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, and Dr. Strange are joined by gaming newcomers Ghost Rider, Magik, Captain Marvel, and a wide roster of characters. Their nemesis is the newly awakened Lilith, Mother of Demons, who controls an army of the abyss. Joining the Marvel heroes is the Hunter, a new player-controlled character who is a child of Lilith and the only one who can truly slay her.
As a strategy game, Midnight Suns employs turn-based combat like in Firaxis’s XCom games, but with the added twist of cards that add extra factors, like the cards in Back 4 Blood.
Yet another game mechanic is that you can build up friendships with your Marvel teammates by doing missions and extra-curricular activities with them at your headquarters. This will reward you with stories and additional abilities you can use in combat.
With the extra time allotted for improving the game, here's hoping that Firaxis will add additional characters to the roster of heroes, perhaps Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four.
In summary, expect Midnight Suns out in the latter half of 2022. You can check out our prices for Marvel’s Midnight Suns for when it arrives.
