Marvel's Spider-Man 2 newest update "accidentally" included dev-only menu

On March 7th, Insomniac Games officially released the latest update for their PlayStation exclusive blockbuster, Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This update introduced numerous new features as promised, including the highly anticipated New Game Plus feature, mission replays, photo mode, new suits for both Spider-man characters, and various other adjustments.

However, after experiencing the latest update, many players were astonished to discover a unique feature that Insomniac Games "accidentally" included in this update.

According to PlayStation 5 players, version 1.002.0 of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 still included both a debug menu and a developer menu specifically reserved for game developers. Players could activate these modes by pressing L3 on the selection screen to access the developer menu, or by pressing Options + Touchpad to access the debug menu. These menus allowed players to skip through story chapters, adjust graphic settings, run demo tests, view frame rate, and cheats.

Moreover, these menus inadvertently unveiled a future DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. According to a user on Reddit, by accessing the developer menu, they discovered an unfinished DLC called Beetle Villain Arc for the game. While there's no official information yet about this DLC, many Reddit users speculate that Insomniac Games will announce more details about this Beetle villain DLC at the upcoming PlayStation State of Play event scheduled for May this year.

Insomniac Games also confirmed the existence of these developer-exclusive menus. They warn players that accessing them could lead to the loss of save data and trophy progress:

This incident is another setback for Insomniac Games, as the game development company had previously been heavily impacted by a large data breach in December last year, which spoiled their future projects and significantly disrupted game production schedules.

Currently, this special feature has been completely removed in the latest patch of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and players can no longer access the two developer-exclusive menus.
