Metaphor: ReFantazio will be as long as Persona 5

The director of Metaphor: ReFantazio recently confirmed in an interview that the length of the game will be on par with Persona 5, one of the latest entries in the Persona series.

Studio Zero, made up of designers and artists behind the recent Persona games, has been working on the Metaphor: ReFantazio project since 2016 and is preparing to launch their first original title on October 11. Katsura Hashino, the director of Metaphor: ReFantazio, also worked on the Persona series, so it’s not surprising that there are similarities between the two games.

In an interview with Spanish website Vandal, one of the questions asked to Hashino was about the length of Metaphor: ReFantazio something fans have been curious about.

Hashino responded, "Persona 5 was a very bulky game, a very robust game, and this Metaphor: ReFantazio will be able to catch up to that and reach its length as well," confirming that Metaphor: ReFantazio will be as long as Persona 5. JRPGs, especially Persona 5, have long been notorious for their length. According to data from HowLongToBeat, the average time to complete the main story of Persona 5 is approximately 97 hours, and it can take a staggering 173 hours to finish all the content in the game.

Hashino admitted that his team initially thought Metaphor: ReFantazio "might be a little shorter," but it ultimately turned out to be as long as Persona 5. Currently, the community's reaction is divided. Some feel that the main story of Persona 5 was too long, and Metaphor: ReFantazio should reduce its length to improve user experience, while others are pleased with the long playtime. For now, we can rest assured that Metaphor: ReFantazio will offer plenty of content for players to explore, with Hashino stating that his team has worked hard to ensure the game has a balanced pace and lots of post-game content.

Although there are many similarities to Persona 5, Metaphor: ReFantazio also has distinct differences from its predecessor. While Persona is set in a modern school-life environment, Metaphor: ReFantazio tells its story in a medieval fantasy world that acts as a "mirror" to the current real world. Due to this change in setting, Metaphor: ReFantazio will not feature romance options, which were a significant mechanic in Persona.

Metaphor: ReFantazio will release on PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X/S on October 11. Be sure to use our price comparison tool to not miss out on great deals for Metaphor: ReFantazio.
