Animal Crossing became one of the most popular Nintendo franchises since pretty much since the launch of the original title in 2001. After that, the first game has been followed by a few spin-offs and three other games, namely Animal Crossing: Wild World, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which had a huge success on Nintendo 3DS. 2020 is the year when we will be getting a new title in the series. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was announced in September 2018 and its release is scheduled for March 20, 2020.
As in the previous installments in the series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons takes place in a completely new island, which, this time, is a deserted one. You will start from scratch with just a camping tent, and with time and a lot of work you will be able to build a whole town. Gathering materials to build tools and structures will be only one of the many activities that you can engage in while you are playing the game. You will be able to share your camp with up to eight other players online or up to four players locally, and work together with them to create your idyllic home.
As the game progresses, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will allow you to develop a community of anthropomorphic animals. You can invite them to live on your island and befriend them.
As we get closer to the release date Nintendo is revealing more about Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Japanese company has even launched a dedicated website to the game that you can visit here. Even though it's on Japanese so far, something that is not surprising knowing that the Animal Crossing series is incredibly popular in the eastern country, we expect to see it in other languages very soon.
With a level of customization never seen before in the series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons aims to be the most complete life simulator for Nintendo Switch and one of the most popular games too.
