After launching its Fatal Frame series on the PC, Koei Tecmo is once again returning another franchise to the spotlight with Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening. Known as Nobunaga’s Ambition: Shinsei in Japan, this strategic simulator is the 16th title in the series and will release on July 20 for the PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. Check out the Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening trailer here:
You play as the impeccably dressed Oda Nobunaga, a great warlord of 16th Century Japan. Your ambition is to unite the entire country under your rule, which means taking the other competing warlords off the board. Nobunaga never got to do this in real life, so it’s up to you to realize his dream. To that end, you must manage various affairs of your clan, including its economy, diplomacy, and military might to increase your prestige and power.
You can’t do it alone, of course. You must also gather good retainers, AI-controlled samurai who will help you manage your clan and provide input for coming up with strategies. You must also appoint land owners to manage your territory, conservators who will determine the direction of the clan, and council officials who will help you create policies. With the fief system, you can grant land to your appointees. The game will have 2,200 characters, so be prepared to spend a lot of time talking to people.
This being the anniversary of the series, Koei Tecmo is introducing new elements to the game. For the first time, you will fight dynamic sieges on a single map where you get to choose where to attack or defend. What’s more, the game will have various features like “landmarks and achievements that will affect the strategy.” As with previous titles, you will also face plenty of scenarios, events, and more.
