Nvidia's upcoming flagship RTX 5090 could be 60% to 70% faster than the RTX 4090

According to a forum post, the upcoming Nvidia flagship graphics card, the GeForce RTX 5090, could feature a base processing clock speed of 2.9 GHz, potentially making it the fastest card on the market. While Nvidia has not officially announced the RTX 50 series at the time of writing, the rumored clock speed of the RTX 5090 would be nearly 700 MHz higher than the RTX 4090.

Although rumors should be taken with caution, the source claimed that the RTX 5090's graphical power would be transformative. The post did not discuss any overclocked speeds, but according to Chiphell forum user Panzerlied, the rumored base speed of the RTX 5090 is said to be 30% higher than the RTX 4090, one of the best graphics cards available. The RTX 4090 can be boosted to reach clock speeds around 2.9 GHz, though this requires additional power.

The RTX 5090 will also feature the GB202 Blackwell GPU with an unconfirmed configuration. The full chip is expected to have 192 Streaming Multiprocessors, resulting in 24,000 cores if NVIDIA maintains the same FP32 core count as their previous gaming Blackwell GPUs. Additionally, the RTX 5090 might use a 448-bit memory bus instead of the previously rumored 512-bit bus, resulting in a VRAM capacity of 28GB rather than 32GB. Nonetheless, this is still a significant amount of onboard memory. The card is also expected to utilize speedy GDDR7 video RAM, aligning with expectations for higher-end Blackwell GPUs.

Overall, everything indicates that the RTX 5090 will be a substantial upgrade over the RTX 4090, with more cores, memory, higher bandwidth, and significantly higher clock speeds. If NVIDIA manages to maintain the same launch price, it would be a major development.
