Outcast 2: A New Beginning Announced

Outcast 2: A New Beginning Announced

It’s been a 20-year wait but it’s finally been confirmed—Outcast 2: A New Beginning is well on its way through its pre-alpha development stage. A sequel to the original 1999 cult classic that helped pioneer nonlinear open-world games, Outcast 2 had been announced as far back as the year 2000 but never came to fruition due to financial problems. A remake, Outcast -Second Contact, was released in 2014.

This time, we are getting a full sequel. THQ Nordic gathered ten of Appeal Studios’ developers from the original game, including the directors and composer Lennie Moore, to make the sequel happen. Check out the Outcast 2 trailer now.

The game sees the return of Cutter Slade, ex-Navy Seal and hero of the original game, as he is brought back after an accident caused him to disappear through time. Summoned by the “almighty Yods,” Cutter returns 20 years later to the planet Adelpha, where he is tasked to help the native Talans against an invading army of robots.

Apart from his arsenal of modular weaponry, Cutter will also get a jetpack that lets him “ jump, air-dash, glide, and quickly traverse” the game’s open world. He will also gain strange Talan powers that will let him control the forces of Nature against enemies.

Appeal developers promise a vibrant open world filled with dangerous wildlife and ancient temples to explore. The Talans will figure heavily in the story, offering a view into an alien culture much like in the film Avatar. Your actions will directly affect the events in this non-linear tale.
