All of the fans of the turn-based strategy games have been waiting for quite long already to see what the creator of the original XCOM series has to offer in his new game. Even though the latest games in the series, like XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM: Enemy Within, and XCOM 2 have managed to secure the place of the series among the best in the genre, Julian Gollop has managed to gather the attention for all the players that loved the UFO: Enemy Unknown and UFO: Terror from the Deep when he announced the development of Phoenix Point.
Not only will Phoenix Point offer us the best squad-based strategy that we are used to. It will take the fight against aliens to a new level with an innovative targeting system that allows you to aim and line up the shots of your soldiers in order to specific certain body parts of the objective to disable them and cause diverse effects.
Humanity's fight against invading forces is a recurring story that will be very familiar to the fans of the series. This time the threat to our planet will come in the form of evolving mutants created by the alien Pandovirus but there are also going to be several factions in the game, each of them with its own agenda.
The Phoenix Project is the organization you belong to in the game. It´s formed by some of the best fighters, scientists, and engineers in the world and it's objective is to defend the planet and fight against the alien threat.
The Disciples of Anu are a cult whose members believe in the existence of an alien God. They have devised ways to create human-alien hybrids and are ruled by the Exalted. They embrace the changes produced by the Pandovirus as a form of salvation.
The Synedrion is a faction formed by radical ecologists that seek to build a new civilization. They use advanced technology to keep the alien mist at bay and integrate it as part of the ecosystem of the planet.
New Jericho is a group of militaristic human-focused survivalists, who believe that the alien threat has to be eliminated by the use of the force, and they will use any means at their disposal to do so, putting an emphasis on warfare and military technology that includes human enhancements.
All these factions will be present in Phoenix Point adding a degree of complexity to the strategy in the game when it launches on December 3, 2019.
