PlatinumGames wants to resurrect Scalebound

Scalebound is a distant dream. The action RPG that would put us in the role of Drew and his faithful dragon companion Thuban ignited the spirits of many Xbox owners and fantasy genre aficionados. However, the duo never saw the light of the Draconis world.

The game is one of the most emblematic and talked about cancellation cases in video games for a long time, mainly because of how much Microsoft and PlatinumGames - the developer of NieR Replicant and Automata - were committed to promoting the game together, even showing it prominently at trade shows like E3 and Gamescom.

As a result, many people believed that we could still receive news about the project someday, even after its termination, since its development was well advanced. In an interview with IGN Japan this week, Atsushi Inaba, the CEO of Platinum Games, rekindled that hope once more.

Scalebound creator wants the game back on track

Accompanied by vice president Hideki Kamiya, Inaba stated that "we really would love to work on Scalebound again. I'd like to discuss it with Microsoft properly." And that the creator Kamiya "has been talking about wanting to work on Scalebound again for a while." The two interviewees were enthusiastic about the plan, especially since the cancelation resulted from PlatinumGames' inexperience in handling multiplayer titles.

"We've worked hard on the game, and it's no good for Microsoft to just leave the title tucked away in a drawer the way it is now," pondered Kamiya. "So we'd love to do something about it. Come on, Phil Spencer, let's do it together!"

With such a transparent, open, and direct appeal, it seems safe to say that Scalebound has never had as much of a chance to be revived as it does now. But while this is nothing more than good intentions, you can browse other games from PlatinumGames. Have you checked out our CD Keys deals for Babylon's Fall? The developer's new action RPG release is scheduled for March 3rd.
