Pokémon 2019 Press Conference: a summary of all announcements

If you are an unconditional fan of Pokémon, you probably already know that the Pokémon 2019 Press conference took place last night in Tokyo. The event, which was broadcast live on Twitch, aimed to showcase current and upcoming projects around the license. If you missed it, here is the summary of the announcements that were made.

Detective Pikachu

While the film Detective Pikachu is currently being broadcasted in cinemas around the world, it must be remembered that it is directly taken from the eponymous game released on 3DS in 2016 in Japan, and in 2018 in the rest of the world. This episode ended on a cliffhanger that foreshadowed a sequel. Well, an announcement was made at the conference saying that the upcoming version of the game for Nintendo Switch would have a different outcome than the one presented in the film. No release date has been reported.

Pokémon Home

At the beginning of 2020, a new application with the name of Pokémon Home should be released. This app is described as "a place where all Pokémon gather". It's a cloud-based service that allows you to trade the Pokémon of Pokémon, Pokémon Go, Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu, Pokémon Let's Go Eevee, Pokémon Bank on 3DS and even the next two games, Pokémon Sword and Shield. The service will be available on Android iOs and Nintendo Switch. It will allow players from around the world to share and interact online, but also with players nearby.

Pokémon Sleep

This new application remains to be discovered, the presentation that has been made remains vague to say the least. This is a mobile application, in the manner of Pokémon Go, developed by Select Button, the studio behind Pokémon: Magikarp Jump. Pokémon Sleep is described as an application that would turn sleep into a diversion, and as Pokémon Go encourages people to go out and walk, it would make players sleep well. Pokémon Sleep would save our sleep time to bring us unique gameplay elements, and even reward us in the game for our good sleeping habits. The application comes with a new object, the Pokémon Plus +, which functions like the Pokémon Plus already available, and transmits information about our sleep to Pokémon Go. We do not know yet what will bring Pokémon Sleep in terms of experience, and the app leaves us for the moment quite perplexed. We will have to wait to find out more.

Pokémon Masters

This is a new mobile game in association with :DeNA, that aims to regroup all Pokémon trainers from previous and current games. A short gameplay presentation was unveiled, just showing us a combat clip. Pokémon Masters is expected to come out in 2019, and we expect to learn more about the game during the month of June. Finally, a new live event to present the two games, Pokémon Sword and Shield will be broadcasted on June 5 at 3am, Paris time. As it usually happens with all the announcements made during Pokémon Press Conferences, more information will be published soon for each of them, so you have to be patient.
