Quake 2 Remastered leaked by South Korean ratings board

This year is turning out to be the age of remakes and remasters as another classic game gets the same treatment. According to Gematsu, the website of the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea (GRAC) has listed a rating for Quake 2 Remastered. The page has since been taken down, but the internet has already noticed.

According to the site’s description, Quake 2 is “an FPS game that wages war against the hostile alien race, Strogg, who plans to invade the Earth.” And it won’t be Quake 2 if it didn’t include descriptions of an “excessive expression of violence” and “blood and body damage are frequently expressed in the process of fighting using weapons”. Sounds about right.

Incidentally, the South Korean ratings committee is a continuous source of leaks for upcoming games. The Silent Hill 2 remake got confirmation ahead of its announcement due to its rating getting leaked in the same manner. Earlier this year, the unannounced game LEGO 2K Goooal! received similar treatment. Finally, the GRAC also leaked the remastered version of Quake back in 2021. Maybe in a couple of years, we’ll hear of Quake 3 Remaster.

First released in 1997, Quake 2 went on to become one of the best-selling games of that time period, reaching 1 million copies in sales by 2002. It was quickly followed by three DLCs, including Quake 2 Mission Pack: The Reckoning.

Quake 2 Remastered will likely be formally announced during QuakeCon 2023 on August 10-13. It’s also likely that Quake 2 will launch on Xbox, PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, just like the remastered version of Quake

If you’re up for some nostalgia, you can find the original version of Quake 2 in our listings. While we don’t have listings yet for Quake 2 Remastered, you can get a Quake, Quake 3, or Quake 4 PC key at rock-bottom prices.
