Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader development looks quite advanced

Owlcat Games does not need an introduction, at least not for the fans of role-playing games. The outstanding work of the studio in Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has made it a referent in the genre, especially for those that love classic games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, or Neverwinter Nights. The tabletop role-playing games from Paizo have been brought to life by the studio with excellent results. Therefore, when it was revealed that Owlcat was developing Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, the news was received with excitement by the most seasoned fans of all things Games Workshop.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader may not ring a bell for the younger fans of the franchise, but the older ones will remember the original role-playing game. It offered a deep look at the universe of the Dark Millenium, rather than focusing exclusively on the war between the Empire, the Xenos and the forces of Chaos. Owlcat Games is taking the same approach to the franchise in the upcoming video game, as revealed in the first Development Diary video for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. Lead narrative designer Olga Kellner gives us some insight into the setting and describes an open universe in the video that you can watch below.

There is more than war in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

In the game, you will take the role of a privateer in charge of exploring the far reaches of the galaxy. With vast resources and a voidship at your disposal, you are a crucial element in the expansion of the Empire. According to the developer, your decisions will shape the story as you progress through the game, but it seems that you will be less constrained than in other games of the franchise at the time of deciding your course of action. Whether you choose to be a fervent follower of the Emperor's faith or not, you will have to face the consequences of your acts, of course. In any case, it seems that it will be a completely different scenario than the one in other games of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, like Mechanicus, Space Marine 2, Darktide, Battlesector, or Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader will offer a different type of experience that should appeal to fans of the franchise and the genre for different reasons, but we are sure that Owlcat Games will create a game to be remembered. With no release date on the horizon, we are left with the videos to know more about the game, which is quite a nice approach to the development from the players' point of view.
