Rumor has it Ubisoft plans to rapidly release more Assassin's Creed titles

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise has encountered some controversies recently, particularly concerning the upcoming game Assassin's Creed: Shadow. The highly anticipated Star Wars Outlaws, which was expected to be a standout title for Ubisoft, has fallen short of revenue expectations, leading to the delay of Assassin's Creed: Shadow. As a result, Ubisoft’s financial performance in the first half of 2024-2025 has significantly declined.

A recent source has revealed that Ubisoft plans to release a new Assassin's Creed game every six months for the next ten years. This strategy appears to be Ubisoft’s attempt to increase the output of this franchise to boost sales amid declining profits.

Assassin’s Creed is one of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises. Since the release of the first Assassin's Creed game in 2007, Ubisoft has consistently released a new title in the series every year, solidifying Assassin's Creed’s place as one of the best-selling game franchises of all time.

It seems Ubisoft intends to capitalize on the Assassin's Creed brand more extensively than before. In a recent episode of the Xbox Two + One podcast, source Henderson revealed Ubisoft’s new release strategy for Assassin's Creed.

Ubisoft will release two Assassin's Creed games each year

During the podcast, Henderson shared insights into Ubisoft’s current development process for the next few years. The source mentioned that Ubisoft currently has a strong release lineup, including a new Ghost Recon, Far Cry 7, a new Rayman game, and a multiplayer extraction shooter for Far Cry.

"They’ve got Assassin’s Creed Shadows, they’ve also got Assassin’s Creed Invictus next year, Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake, and they plan to do a new Assassin’s Creed every six months or so for the next ten years, I believe," Henderson shared.

This is still only a rumor, so take it with caution. However, Henderson is a fairly reliable source, making this information likely to be accurate. If Ubisoft follows through with this plan, we could see up to 20 Assassin's Creed games of various scales over the next decade.

This raises questions about whether Ubisoft can maintain such a release pace and whether accelerating game launches like this is worthwhile. The Assassin's Creed franchise has seen a decline in popularity among gamers, partly due to the annual release cycle that has led fans to feel fatigued. With this new release cycle, the quality of each game might be compromised further, potentially damaging the brand long-term. However, our price comparison tool will continue to provide the best deals for Assassin's Creed: Shadow as we await the future of the franchise.
